Description of Practice
My mediation practice is focused in the family law field including not only divorce, but also custody, support, parenting plans, paternity and grandparent visitation issues. I am available to mediate for parties from any Oregon county with family law issues. In addition, I have completed training in elder law mediation and worked with family members dealing with probate and elder care issues. I am able to prepare all the necessary legal paperwork to bring mediated matters to their conclusion. I have been recognized by Best Lawyers of America annually for many years and as the Lawyer of the year for 2016 for Family Mediation in Portland. I have also been recognized since 2005 by Super Lawyers to the present including being named one of the Top 25 Women Lawyers in Oregon in 2014.
I believe, based on my years of experience, that mediation can provide the parties with a reasonable process for resolving some of life's most challenging issues. My goal is to provide the participants in the mediation process with the opportunity to work through their issues with each other in a fair and productive manner.
I have been an attorney in Oregon for over 30 years. My practice has focused exclusively on family law matters for the past 27 years. In the course of that work I helped hundreds of clients through the mediation process. Since 2006, I have successfully served as a full time mediator for hundreds of parties, both represented by attorneys and self-represented. In mediation, I help parties to resolve all aspects of family law matters including custody, support and property division issues in the context of divorce, paternity, domestic partnership and juvenile law matters.
I received my Juris Doctor in 1985 from Willamette University College of Law and graduated from the Scholars Program at Portland State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. I have taken many courses in mediation and have taken both beginning and advanced coursework in the field.

I am acutely aware of the costs, both financial and emotional, that family disputes have on individuals and their families. It is because of that that I believe mediation can be a great benefit to individuals and families. Therefore, I believe it is important for parties to feel they have a safe and productive experience when they come to me for mediation. Depending on the situation, parties either meet together in one room or sometimes we utilize a caucusing or shuttle method where I move between two rooms. Also, depending on the needs of the individuals and the case, my approach is largely facilitative encouraging the parties to work the details of the resolution through with my assistance. However, sometimes parties seek some " evaluative" assistance if they are not familiar with the various legal issues around their problems. Although I am a licensed attorney in Oregon, I cannot provide the parties with individual legal advice and encourage them to seek such help from other attorneys and qualified professionals.
I ask the parties to pay my fees at the conclusion of each session. I charge for my time on an hourly basis. If the parties request that I prepare legal paperwork for them at the conclusion of their mediation, then I ask for a retainer for my time and the necessary court fees. The amount of the retainer varies depending on the complexity of the issues.
I have been recognized by both the "Super Lawyers" publication from 2006 to the present and the "Best Lawyers in America" publication from 2009 to the present in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. I carry an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell for excellence in the field of family law. I also work to further the education and professionalism in family law mediation and dispute resolution through my volunteer work on as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar Dispute Resolution Section and as a Board member of the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners.
